DPD RI Request the Government to Handle the Disaster in NTB


Jakarta, dpd.go.id - Entering the end of session V in the 2017-2018 session, DPD RI expressed their condolences for the earthquake that occurred in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). All members of DPD RI expressed their condolences over the series of earthquake disasters which claimed hundreds of lives.

"We represent the Leaders and all members of the Indonesian DPD to express their condolences for the series of earthquake disasters in West Nusa Tenggara that occurred several times from the end of July to the beginning of August. We ask that the government immediately make sustainable steps in disaster management, "said Vice Chairman of DPD RI, Akhmad Muqowam, when opening the 16th Plenary Session at Nusantara V, Jakarta, Wednesday (15/8).

On that occasion, present the Chairman of DPD RI, Oesman Sapta, Vice Chairman of DPD RI, Nono Sampono, Vice Chairwoman of DPD RI, Darmayanti Lubis. He explained in carrying out his constitutional duties during the 2017-2018 session. The DPD has produced 1 proposal of Prolegnas of DPD RI, 10 initiative proposal Bills, 23 results of the supervision of the implementation of the Law.

In addition, DPD RI has also produced 6 considerations related to the budget and Election of BPK RI Members, 8 views, opinions and considerations of the Bill, as well as 3 recommendations of DPD RI on the problems of society and regions. "The legal products produced are a form of accountability of the DPD towards the authority in accordance with the Law," explained Muqowam.

When delivering a report on the activities of DPD members in the electoral district, Senator from Maluku, John Pieris said he was hoping for the Eastern Indonesia region. He gave an example, if the APBN posture was Rp. 3000 Trillion, Rp. 1000 Trillion to eastern Indonesia.

"If based on the population, it will be difficult for the islands. The gap continues to widened, we can't do anything. We need to pressure the central government to pay attention to the eastern region, "John said. In addition, DPD member from West Sulawesi Province, Rev. Marthen highlighted the issue of village funds. There are still many village officials who do not know how to use funds. "This also needs attention for all of us," he said.

At the same time, DPD Member of Gorontalo Rahmiyati Jahja explained the case of Indonesian Workers (TKI). Because there are still many migrant workers who get unfair treatment from employers.
