Jakarta (8/1) Vice Chairman of the House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) Farouk Muhammad said that Indonesia must defend dignity in front of Australia.
Farouk said it in response to strain relations between Indonesia and Australia which re-emerged as the suspicion of material that harassing Indonesian sovereignty of military training in Australia. However, both countries immediately sought to ease tensions.
Thursday (5/1), Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne declared official apology and promised that the training materials were insulting Indonesia will soon be replaced. In response to the apology, the Indonesian government also shows good intention not to renew the tension, though still awaiting the results of the military investigation regarding abuse of the Kangaroo land.
Farouk warned that Indonesia must show firmness though Australia has apologized.
"Indonesia must act decisively to ensure that Australia will behave as good neighbors." he said
According to Professor of Universities of Police Science (PTIK), If Indonesia being infirm then the similar incidents will continue to repeat. "There is still fresh in our memory how our neighboring country that dared to tapped the conversation of President and his family," said Farouk.
Nonetheless, the Head of Regional Development Acceleration (MPPD) Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) reminded that the relationship between Indonesia and Australia are also important for both countries. Both are members of the MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia), countries with emerging powers in the G-20 outside the block G7 and BRICS. An economic relation is also important for the growth of both countries.
In addition, there are international issues that need to be solved by good cooperation such as human trafficking and immigrant issues.
"Indonesia should send a clear message: let's be friendly countries who respect each other," said Farouk.08 Januari 2017
