Surabaya, dpd.go.id - Chairman of DPD RI Oesman Sapta received the Warta Bakti Utama award before the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, Saturday (9/2), at the Convention Hall of the Grand City Hotel, Surabaya, East Java.

The award was handed over to Oso, Oesman Sapta's nickname at the 2019 National Press Day commemoration.

According to the person in charge of the National Press Day (HPN) 2019, Margiono, Oso received the award because he was considered successful in becoming a newsmaker who was beneficial to the country.

Along with Oso receiving the award, the award in the press was also given, namely the Press Independence Award for Indonesian President Joko Widodo, which was also handed over by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Press Council Yosep Adi Prasetyo, and other awards were given to several candidates with various categories including the Pioneering Award Media Field, Lifetime Achievement, Adinegoro Award, Presscard Number One Award (PCWO), Digital Awards, 2019 HPN Medal for disaster preparedness and information, and Press Concern Award.

At the 2019 HPN Event with the theme Press of Strengthening Digital-Based Popular Economy, Oso hoped that the press would continue to support and care for people's economy so that the information would expand and have an impact on increasing regional economic growth. "I hope the press is in accordance with its role to be able to help so that the strengthening of the people's economy can be realized, so that together with the government we can advance the regional economy. Because if Indonesia wants to move forward and prosper it must start from the region," he said.

Oso added National Press Day was an extraordinary activity. "HPN is an extraordinary activity, all national activities that we see will not be as complete as this if there are no press people, meaning that this HPN is authoritative and must be appreciated by opponents and friends. In the future I hope the journalist's ethical values are truly maintained , " he said.

Highlighting hoaxes, oso asked people not to believe it easily. "Earlier in the forum, the President conveyed the hoax further to the point of disbelief. This means that valid and true ethics and news content from journalists are increasingly trusted. I urge in the political year that the news should be impartial but balanced so that the news is more trusted by the public. "So this issue of hoaxes are not under the guidance of the press so this must be resisted and confirmed if the news has a potential hoax," he said

In his remarks, Indonesian President Joko Widodo delivered a Happy National Press Day 2019 as well as appreciation for the holding of HPN 2019. "In line with the development of the internet, internet users in Indonesia have 143.62 million people, which is 54.6% of the total population, but according to the 2018 Edelment Trust Barometer conventional media remains more trusted than social media.

Hopefully the Press can confirm its role as an accurate source of information, can educate the public, provide social control, and give constructive criticism. The government guarantees ethical freedom, happy National Press Day for all press people throughout Indonesia, "he explained as he expressed his appreciation for the performance of the Indonesian press.

Also present at the event included the Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, Ambassadors, East Java Governor Soekarwo, Regional Officials and General Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Atal Sembiring Depari and PWI ranks from several provinces, and various press components in Indonesia.
