Batam, dpd.go.id - The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) is worried that the decline of the industrial sector in Batam will affect economic growth. In this regard, Committee II of DPD RI conducted a working visit as part of supervision task over the implementation of Act no. 3 Year 2014 on Industry in Batam City, Riau Islands.

Senator of Riau Islands, Haripinto Tanuwidjaja said lately, the industry in Batam has decreased significantly. This is very concern and needs to be addressed immediately.

"Our goal coming here is to supervise the Industrial Law. We know the industry in Batam, especially its growth experienced a tremendous decline, "he said during a visit to the Office of BP Batam, Riau Islands, Monday (9/4).

According to him, Riau Islands became the second province from the bottom nationally. Until now the economic support only comes from the tourism sector. "Batam is now in the middle of the tourism sector," Haripinto said.

He added that the industry sector slump in Batam needed special handling to revive the potential of the industry in this golden triangle region. "Batam City needs synergy and support from all lines in the application of new potential industry development strategy," said Member of Committee II.

Related to tourism sector in Batam, Chairman of Committee II DPD RI, Parlindungan Purba said many tourists who will go to Singapore feel disappointed. "Many complaints that the queue on the ship and pasport handling very long. This problem has not had any solution until now, "he explained.

He added that especially on peak season (holiday season) there will be long queue. "Do the hours of departure need to be reduced ?," asked Parlindungan.

On the same occasion, Chairman of Port and Tourism BP Batam, Nasrula explained since last month the immigration has added counters to anticipate the length of the queue. "This month we also have system disruption but we modify it by manual," he said.

In addition, the Port of Batam Center has a short flow and minimal parking lot. One of the obstacles is the land for parking lot. "So currently we are modifying parking lots. But it can not be done in an instant, "said Nasrula. * Fan
