Jakarta, dpd.go.id - Many parties have misinterpreted the meaning of gender equality as to equalize men and women, whereas gender equality is not meant to be. Gender equality programs and activities carried out by the Government are aimed at providing protection to women who have been left behind due to cultural factors that still demean women. This misunderstanding is suspected to be in Government institutions including the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, DPR RI, and also DPD RI.

This was, among other things, the presentation delivered by GKR Hemas in the National Seminar organized by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection with the theme Strengthening Development of Women and Children Towards the Planet 50:50 Gender Equality in 2030, in Jakarta (6/11). In this activity, GKR Hemas also delivered a response to the policy brief on strengthening women's empowerment and child protection institutions prepared by the drafting team from STIAMI.

On this occasion, GKR Hemas also stated the need to increase support for the functions of women's empowerment and child protection both at the central and regional levels. "Because it is still happening, in the province alone, the budget for women's empowerment and child protection is dependent on other agencies," said this DPD RI member of Yogyakarta Province.

Nevertheless, GKR Hemas reminded the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to move more actively and provide concrete support to women who are involved in politics. "Of course I underline that women's representation is important so that women's interests are voiced in policy. For example there is a potential woman in NTB, who after being supported later succeeded in becoming the chairman of DPRD, and was able to bring the budget for the welfare of women and children, "said GKR Hemas.

GKR Hemas also reminded the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to change the strategy in carrying out the work program that it provides. The proposed changes so that the Ministry will be upgraded from Cluster III to Cluster II and the increase in the budget will only be positively correlated if the Ministry takes a new strategy that is appropriate and effective. In addition, GKR Hemas also requested that the Ministry openly convey problems in performance, including failure to meet development targets.

"I remember having participated in a meeting at the National Examination, there I was somewhat disappointed with the present Ministry. Indonesia never reported its failure, but Indonesia reaped that the MDGs failed. We don't need to lie to other countries, "said GKR Hemas.

GKR Hemas also invited all parties to jointly fight to support the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection to improve its performance. "If necessary, this Ministry should not be named" Empowering Women and Children ", it should be" Empowering Men and Women, "said GKR Hemas. "Because the woman is already empowered. If necessary, the ministers should not be women, but men, so we can see what men are fighting for women, "said GKR Hemas, who was greeted with great applause from the participants.

In this activity, GKR Hemas also invited all participants to work together to promote fellow women even though they came from different political parties. "Indonesian women will only advance if we all move together, as you progress, take off your party clothes, voice that you are an Indonesian woman."
