DAILAMI FIRDAUS WARMLY WELCOMED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP OF INDONESIA AND THE PHILIPPINES

Manila - Dailami Firdaus, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSP) of the House of Regional Representative (DPD) RI, appreciates the statement of the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman of the Republic Senate Philippines, Senator Loren Legarda to form a Group or Parliamentary Friendship Committee of Indonesia and the Philippines.

"I hereby declare that the Indonesian and Filipino Parliamentary Friendship Committee is formed, and those present at this meeting are included as the founders," said Senator Loren Legarda, last Wednesday (9/8/2017).

Statement of Senator Legarda was delivered in a meeting with the delegation of BKSP DPD RI who held a working visit to the Philippines from 8th to 10th of August 2017.

Chairman of BKSP Delegation, Prof. Dr. Dailami Firdaus warmly welcomed Senator Legarda's statement to make the parliamentary friendship of the two countries.

"Indonesia and the Philippines has a very good relationship, therefore Senator Legarda feels that if they have  a parliamentary friendship with Belarus, why not with DPD RI?", said Dailami Firdaus, a senator from Jakarta electoral district.

BKSP DPD RI delegations and the Foreign Committee of the Philippines discussed several issues such as the importance of parliament to provide support for the eradication of terrorism, drugs, economic cooperation and renewable energy.

During the meeting, Senator Legarda also invited Brig. Gen. Charito B. Plaza, Director of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), a state-owned enterprise that is in charge of developing investment and special areas of the Philippines.

"This Philippine Senate's economic diplomacy model that involves the elements of business world can occur because of the established trust between the two. I think this model needs to be developed also in DPD RI, even including with civil society on non-economic issues, " concluded Dailami.

Also participating in the BKSP delegation to the Philippines were Chairman of Committee II DPD RI, Parlindungan Purba (DPD member of North Sumatera electoral district), H. Abu Bakar Jamalia (Jambi), Ahmad Jajuli (Lampung), Dr. I.G.N. Arya Wedakarna MWS III (Bali), dr. Delis Julkarson Hehi (Central Sulawesi), Adrianus Garu (East Nusa Tenggara), and Reverend Charles Simaremare (Papua).

In addition to the Senate, members of BKSP delegation will meet the Foreign Affairs Committee, Parliamentary & Diplomatic Relations Committee and the Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, as well as to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Philippine healthcare education center.
