Papua Senator Concerned About the Shooting Incident in Nduga

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - DPD RI Member of Papua Province Carles Simaremare was concerned about the shooting incident that took place in Nduga, Papua on 2 December 2018. Previously, there had been a shooting by an armed group of bridge workers in Yigi regency which claimed the lives of both workers and members of TNI.

"First of all, we senators sent from Papua were concerned about the victims of the shooting in Nduga. "It is regrettable to happen in December where the month is full of peace, and mercy from God," Carles said in his Working Room at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (6/12).

According to him, December to the end of the year is a very sacred month where there is Christmas. So that this December it was inappropriate for the commotion and killing of so many victims. "The reason for that event was that I didn't know the exact cause. The point is we don't justify the incident, the victims are just ordinary citizens who are building Papua, "Carles said.

In fact, he continued, the development could be enjoyed by generations of Papuans who would enjoy it. The workers who become victims have families, so it's bad if they become victims. "We also hope for the TNI and Polri to pursue the perpetrators. But don't let this chase be caught or misdirected, "Carles said.

This Vice Chairman of Committee III also hopes for the perpetrators to surrender themselves to the authorities. But don't let yourself be treated arbitrarily. "The point is still respecting the surrender. Why surrender? In order to avoid civilians who are victims. Because the authorities there usually cannot tell which culprit is. Because, their faces are similar so it's difficult to distinguish, "Carles said.

He also appealed to the TNI, National Police and the Government not to internalize this case. So the government must be careful because this case could be their hope for publishing throughout the world. "This case could be their hope to become the world's attention. So you have to be careful not to be like it used to be, which is scorching, "said Carles.
