The Opening of the 8th Plenary Session of DPD RI on Session Period III in 2011-2012

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – The House of Regional Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) held the 8th plenary session of DPD RI on Session Period III Year 2011-2012. The Plenary session chaired by the Chairman of the DPD RI, Irman Gusman, accompanied by Vice-Chairman II of the DPD RI, G.K.R. Hemas. The 8th Plenary Session has 3 main agendas, among others: 1. The Opening of the 8th Plenary Session on Session Period III Year 2011-2012; 2. The opening speech; 3. The Activity Report of the members in the constituency.

In his opening speech, Chairman of the DPD RI, Irman Gusman expressed his concern over the death of Indonesian Workers (TKI) in Jordan. “This is our common concern, therefore it there is a need for the proposed amendment of Law Number 39 of 2004 on Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Abroad. So that, the problems related to Indonesian workers abroad won’t happen again, “said Irman.

Connected to the activity reports of DPD RI members in the constituency, there are some similarities of problems that will become the discussion of the DPD fittings, such as the land disputes, the regional elections, the implementation of e-ID card, the problem of infrastructure, education, taxes, local levies and Credit People’s Business (KUR), which are still not running optimally.

“For the related issues in Committee I, the problem of soil or land potential causing conflict of land, mining, oil palm, rubber and others, many of its rights-of-business are overlapping,” said Sofwat Hadi (DPD RI members from South Kalimantan Province).

In line with Sofwat Hadi, Marhany V. Poly Pua (DPD RI members from North Sulawesi Province) also argued that the land conflict is quite rife in North Sulawesi. Moreover, it was suspected to have land mafias who intervene in land disputes. Therefore, the formation of the special committee on Land is expected to resolve those issues.

Subsequently, related to the discussion in Committee II, the raised issues are connected to infrastructure such as roads and inadequate transportation. Sri Kadarwati (DPD RI members from West Kalimantan Province) said that many of the roads to the border are damaged and need to be fixed immediately.

Education issue, which is the discussion area for the Committee III, became the spotlight in almost every province. Denty Eka Widi Pratiwi (DPD RI members from Central Java Province) revealed the need to improve educational institutions. “The ability of the professionalism of teachers is still far from expectations. This needs some more attention, “said Denty.

While the discussion in Committee IV, Farouk Muhammad (DPD RI members from West Nusa Tenggara Province) explained that the KUR on his region still has not run optimally and should be followed up.
