Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Supports DPD’s Role in the Case of Mining Exploration in Bima
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – IN order to get input from various parties associated with mining exploration problem in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Chairman of the DPD RI, Irman Gusman, along with the Leadership of Committee I and Committee II DPD RI held a meeting with PT. Sumber Mineral Nusantara and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (01/09/2012).
In the brief meeting held in the Delegation Room of Leadership of DPD RI, Parliamentary Complex Senayan Jakarta, Farouk Mohammed as a senator from NTB Province described the recent condition of society which could not be said to be normal because there are the pros and cons groups. “People are demanding revocation of the Regent Decree No. 357. On the other side the Regent is willing to revoke the decree by requesting support from the central government.” According to the senator from NTB, the repeal of decree is not necessary if the company can review not to continue its exploration activities. Farouk added, community’s participation in mining has not been obtained due to the low-level of socialization.
PT. Sumber Mineral Nusantara which is represented by Sucipto explained that in realizing the company’s investment activities the company hold on the existing provision and law, if there is violation the company is willing to be prosecuted. “We feel very aggrieved by the termination as if we have had mining process, but we just made the very early process of exploration that does not raise environmental impacts,” he explained. Furthermore, Sucipto confirmed that the company should be consistent in doing business so that it still hopes to continue the activity someday.
Thamrin Sihite, as the General Director of Coal of Minstry of ESDM representing the Minister of ESDM who was unable to attend, expressed his concern at the loss of lives in the incident. Furthermore, Thamrin recalled the agreements have been made by the DPD, the Regional Parliaments (DPRD) of Bima Regency, Regent of Bima and the Ministry of ESDM during a visit to the field. “The first result is to support the regent to suspend exploration activities for one year. Second is to recommend follow-up steps to find solutions for these problems,” he explained. According to him, it is an appropriate step to coordinate this issue with the DPD RI so that people’s aspirations can be accommodated. “In this issue, we need to review the social aspect and local wisdom of the region; the DPD can contribute more to it. Especially it concerns the issue of regional autonomy,” said Thamrin. Regarding the revocation, Thamrin argued it needs to be reconsidered.
Meanwhile, Paulus Yohanes Sumino observed the problem in several points of view. Among other things, if it involves legal issue, it must be resolved legally. Second, the involvement of community’s participation since the beginning is very important. “Therefore, socialization is very important to do,” said the member of Commission I DPD RI.
At the end of the meeting, Irman Gusman expressed his appreciation of the results already achieved in the meeting, including a proposed follow-up meeting to resolve the mining exploration problem in Bima Regency by PT. Sumber Mineral Nusantara. “So we have agreed with the termination to dampen volatility in the community,” concluded Irman closing the meeting. (af)
