Laode Welcomes the Bill on the Guarantee of Halal Products
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – ENTERING the discussion bill on the Guarantee of Halal Products, Committee III of DPD RI held another plenum (01/17/2012) with the leadership agenda of the Leader Introductary Council submitted by the Vice Chairman of the DPD, Laode Ida. In a meeting held in Meeting Room of Committee III DPD RI, Parliament Complex Senayan Jakarta, Laode suggested that DPD RI leaders should welcome the discussion of the bill that was initiated by the House of Representatives (DPR RI) since 2009′s.
“I urge the Committee III to be more serious in discussing this bill. This bill would support the view of scholars, in this case the Indonesian Ulema Council, which makes the fatwa, but often not obeyed because it has no legal basis in our country, “said Laode.
Furthermore, the DPD members from Southeast Sulawesi Province suggested that the DPD should do a recheck of academic texts and also conduct brain storming with the various parties so that the draft will be better. “After this introductary council, the bill on Guarantee of Halal Products will be officially discussed,” said Laode that also became a cue for the Committee III to discuss it exclusively.
However, there were many laws that actually regulate the halal products, even it has been specified into the Regulation of the Government that the existence of this bill will overlap. Therefore, Abdi Sumaithi, a member of the DPD from Banten province proposed that the title of the bill should be amended. “We should further review the terms of institutions, which is the institution that guarantee a halal product,” he suggested.
Responding to the introduction given by Laode, Lalu Supardan proposed that the bill should be added with the word “good” (thoyyib) after “halal”, to become the bill on guarantee of a Good and Halal Product. “Because halal is not necessarily good and good is not necessarily halal,” DPD members from West Nusa Tenggara Province explained.
At the end of the introduction, Laode asserted that this bill is not only belong to Muslims and its purpose is to facilitate the community to choose. “This is not to disrupt relations between religions,” Laode confirmed. (af)
