Farouk Muhammad: Public Accountability Committee (PAP) and the Attorney General Make a Good Cooperation
Jakarta, dpd.go.id. – SOLICITOR General for Special Crimes of the Attorney General of RI, Andi Nirwanto, attended the Working Meeting of Public Accountability Committee (PAP) DPD RI with the Attorney General in the framework of explanation/clarification of the cases handled by the Attorney General including its development. In the meeting held on Thursday (26/01/2012) at the DPD RI building, the Parliament Complex Senayan Jakarta, Andi read the written explanation from the Attorney General, Basrief Arief, who was unable to attend.
On the sidelines of his explanation about the cases handled by the Attorney General, Andi said that what is delivered by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) is not necessarily containing corruption. “We must conduct studies and investigations in advance, whether there are elements of the state financial harm,” he explained.
Regarding the control of corruption, Andi also outlined that not all cases are handled by the Attorney General. For cases with less than or equal to five billion, the control is performed by the District Attorney (District level), whereas the cases with more than five billion that occurred in regions is controlled by the Chief Public Attorney (provincial level). “If the case is over five billion and attracted the national/international attention or involving certain officials, the control is in the Attorney General,” he added.
The PAP DPD RI accepted the report from the Attorney General and assessed it is obvious enough. In addition to explaining the development of cases handled by the Attorney General, Andi Nirwanto also answered several questions from members of the PAP DPD RI.
Chairman of the PAP, Farouk Muhammad, appreciated the presence and explanation of the Attorney General and hoped the cooperation between the PAP and the Attorney General can be improved. “This is evidence that the PAP and the Attorney General has made a good cooperation, we will convey this to our constituents in the region, and hopefully our cooperation can be further improved,” said the Senator from West Nusa Tenggara closing the meeting.
