Committee III Plans for Establishment of Teacher Special Committee
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – ISSUES of education, especially the uneven flow of BOS’ funds (School Operational Costs) became the main discussion in the meeting of the Working Team on Education and Culture of Committee III DPD RI (16/01/2012). Discrimination in education budget for public schools and madrasah (under the Ministry of Religious Affairs) was expressed by Hafidh Asrom. The senator from Yogyakarta Province encountered the case during a working visit to the constituency at the last recess. “This problem is most prominent when I was having a working visit to the five districts/cities in Yogyakarta. Madrasah does not receive BOS funds from local governments. DPD is expected to find a solution by providing the legal basis of BOS funds from local government allocations to the madrasah,” Hafidh explained.
According to Muh. Syibli Sahabuddin, it is an evident that madrasah and pesantren (Islamic boarding school) do not get maximum attention from both central and local governments. Syibli expressed the proposal of Committee III to establish a special committee that deals with education issues. “Later this committee will be called Teacher Special Committee. Why Teacher Special Committee? Because teacher is the main pillar for investigating the problems in education,” said the senator from West Sulawesi Province.
Another problem highlighted in the meeting which was housed in Building A DPD RI, Parliament Complex Senayan are the National Standardized School, Pilot Project of International Standardized School and International school. In the view of Anna Latuconsina, such schools do not meet the requirements, both in terms of quality, facilities, and teachers. “What I observed in the Maluku is like that. We need to question the matter to the Minister of National Education,” said Anna, who comes from Maluku Province.
Finally, Hafidh Asrom raised the issue of the National Examination which is still a chore for the Committee III. Looking at the treacherous practice in the field, Hafidh argued that the National Examination is actually corrupting the morals of the nation. “In the National Examination, children are taught dishonesty that their moral is actually poisoned,” lid Hafidh.
