Corruption: A Strategic Issue In 2012
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – CORRUPTION would still be a major issue for the government of Indonesia in 2012. That is the conclusion in Talk Show of DPD RI Indonesian Perspective at DPD Building on Friday (09/12/11). In the talk show entitled “The Political and Legal Map in 2012”, I Wayan Sudhirta mentioned six main problems to be faced in the next year, one of which is corruption. “There are six key issues in this year that will be encountered in 2012, such as regional elections, the central and local government relations, coalition and joint secretariat, corruption and also legislation,” explained the chairman of PPUU DPD RI.
The same thing was also delivered by Saiful Mujani, General Research of Indonesian Survey Institute, who said that in 2012, corruption becomes one of the strategic issues in addition to the issue of parliamentary threshold. Saiful predicts that the political temperature in 2012 will increase. “The political map will change next year,” he explained.
According to Syamsuddin Haris, the trigger is Bank Century case which has not ended. The election of Abraham Samad as chairman of the Commission of Anti-Corruption (KPK) also does not guarantee the completion of that case. “Abraham Samad is a compromise product in Senayan because he is assumed to be more easily tamed,” he said. In addition, the Political Observer of LIPI added another problem in the form of sharpening competition among presidential candidates.
Not far from corruption, Adnan Topan Husodo argued that KPK and the Revision of KPK Law will also be a strong case in 2012. “But we still have to be optimistic with KPK even though the selection of KPK chairman is much more politically,” said the Deputy Coordinator of ICW. (af)
