Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Handling borders between countries that occurred in Indonesia is very complex and requires support from various sectors of development in the central and regional levels. “Regarding the border issue, the Indonesian government only thinking in terms of border security alone, whereas the welfare of the people in the border is also important to consider, “said Kamaruddin, Member of the DPD RI from Southeast Sulawesi. The social, economic, cultural, defense and security are issues that arise from the border issue. But the construction of the border is actually the effort to improve the welfare of the people in the border, and of course to maintain the integrity of Indonesia.

“The efforts of Indonesian border area development which are made by governments in the implementation has not been implemented in an integrated manner,” said Kausar AS as an expert in RDPU held by Committee I DPD RI, at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/11/2011). One of the government’s efforts which is to establish the Post Audit Transboundary (PPLB) along the boundary line, according to him is not a solution for the border.

Improving the coordination and cooperation between local governments of border area can be a way on solving this problem. “One way to optimize the function and authority of the Sub-district Head is according to PP No. 19 of 2008 on the Sub-District,” said Kausar. “Hopefully, the Head of Sub-district can improve the quality and quantity of public services so that the welfare of communities in the border areas will get good service and fast development of the border and can be completed as expected”, he added.

Of course, it is not only the improvement of coordination and cooperation between local authorities at the border, but also with the central government even the relevant ministers such as the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Manpower, and the Ministry of Transmigration and Tourism.
