Hedonistic Lifestyle of the State Officials

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – It is not worthy if we see the luxurious lifestyle that is displayed by state officials in Indonesia. In the amid conditions of our nation with the majority of communities that are under the poverty line, they still show the hedonistic attitude that is sometimes detrimental to the community.

As a former officer in Indonesia, Mahadi Sinambela argued that showing the wealth is not the purpose of state officials. “One of the factors for the visibility of a luxurious lifestyle is because of government regulations that already exist, such as the standard use of official cars for ministers and other state officials, the facility houses offices and strict security guard” said Mahadi who once became the Minister of Youth and Sports.

According to Bahtiar Effendy, the state officials don’t need traveling with the convoy, causing excessive delays in traffic. Only by using luxurious cars had already shown their hedonistic attitude, added with such guards like that. Bahtiar also added, “Those lifestyles and attitudes need to be regulated in a special Act relating to ethics, or the instruction of President”, said this Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta is in Interactive Dialogue DPD RI, Friday, (18/11 / 2011).

Associated with LHKPN (State Administering Wealth Report), Adnan Topan Husodo of the ICW said the lack of rules to criminalize property treasures by the State Officials increase their confidence to a luxurious life style. “It could be that they show the wealth that is owned by the state” he said. In contrast to Bahtiar, Adnan said the number of instructions from the President of Indonesia cannot guarantee the State of Indonesia into a ‘clean’ country.
