DPD RI Helps to Fight for DPRD RI Status

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – The Regional of Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPRD RI) is now being questioned, whether it is concluded the legislature or included in the regime of Regional government? Moreover, nowadays the Members of DPRD are often compared with the Head of the Region, but their status is different. Added with the Act No. 32 of 2004 which further weakened the position of DPRD RI.

The House of Regional Representative of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), which also represent local communities to struggle and reinforce the status of DPRD RI which is in the crossroad into the 5th amendment of the 1945 Constitution. “Although the role of the DPD RI is often being questioned, but we (DPD RI) is willing to fight for DPRD RI status in the 5th amendment “, explains Alirman Sori, DPD RI member from West Sumatera in the State Dialogue conducted by the DPD RI, in Parliament Complex, Senayan-Jakarta (23/11/2011).

However, according to Vice Chairman of Commission II of DPR RI, Ganjar Pranowo, DPD RI does not included into the legislature. DPRD RI should be able to use their rights such as rights of interpellation and the rights to give opinions to fight for their status. “They do not use their rights properly and only demand what they are supposed to get”, he said.

Irman Putra Sidin (expert in Constitutional Law) who is also the main source suggested that DPRD RI seems unserious fighting for their own status. However Irman supports the efforts of DPD RI to promote the status of DPD RI in the 5th amendment of the 1945 Constitution.
