Public Accountability Committee (PAP) of DPD RI Listens to the Vision and Mission of Two KPK Chairman Candidates
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Public Accountability Committee (PAP) DPD RI invited the two KPK Chairman candidates on Commission Hearings Public Meeting held at the DPD Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta (10/12/2011). Attending the meeting, led by Farouk Muhammad, are Yunus Husein and Bambang Widjajanto. Each candidate presents a vision and mission as well as their commitment toward the eradicating of corruption and KPK.
In his presentation, Yunus Husein proposed a formulation in combating that has deep rooted in this country, through preventing action, eradicating and involving community participation. “There is no single recipe to eradicate corruption. It is impossible for KPK to eradicate corruption without any help from community and all parties,” said chairman of PPATK (Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre). He added, prevention is important because prevention can eliminate the causes of corruption.
Hussein also aspired to establish a corruption-free Indonesia and make the KPK as an independent institution that plays an active role in the prevention and eradication of corruption. “Another effort is to position the Commission as a driver of change that would create the anti-corruption nation and make corruption as uninteresting thing to do,” Hussein stated. Recognizing the existence of KPK which face the pros and cons, Hussein insisted that he would bring an independent Commission and avoid any conflicts of interest.
Another candidate, Bambang Widjojanto revealed the dangers of failure to eradicate corruption in the State. “The inability to eradicate corruption can create a failed state,” said the ex Director of Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation. Further, Bambang said that eradication of corruption should also be able to minimize poverty in this country.
According to Bambang, the main problem of corruption is actually about how to control power. “Power should be controlled to prevent abuse of power,” Bambang argued. Furthermore, the government needs to formulate national interest in order to make clearer focus on eradication of corruption.
In his nomination as a candidate for Chairman of this Commission, Bambang has the vision to realize the state administration free of corruption, collusion and nepotism, and combating corruption effectively and efficiently. Bambang also recommended Seven Steps of Strategic Programs which he calls the “Optimistic Scenario”, which are the development of institutional capacity, making the road map and focusing, consolidation and institutional synergy and synergy with the state executive and oversight functions.
