Institutional of Law Center for Strengthening the Role of DPD

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Related to the National Workshop organized by the Bill Drafting Committee (PPUU) DPD RI which takes place from 19 to 21 October, 2011, on this second day National Workshop participants were divided into three groups, namely Commission I, Commission II, and Commission III. In the Commission III led by Iswandi (senator of Lampung Province) took the topic “Institutional of Law Center”.

Representatives from Higher Education who attend presented their assessment toward DPD in each group. Starting the report of the research results from several universities in cooperation with DPD RI, Tunggul Anshari Satyanegara assessed the weak role of DPD RI due to limitation in the Regulations and the Laws. “So far, the function and role of DPD RI is less audible because it is restricted by some regulations. Building a Law Center can be a solution as a tool to absorb the community’s aspirations to make the role of DPD RI more audible,” he explained representing the research results from Brawijaya University.

In line with Tunggul, Suharizal from Andalas University supported the establishment of Law Center because DPD RI does not have standards to absorb and accommodate the community’s aspirations.

From the discussion of Commission III, there are several conclusions proposed to DPD RI, among others:

  1. In order to optimize the function of DPD RI, Law Center is developed into an independent and permanent institution under the coordination of PPUU DPD RI.
  2. Law Center functions as a supporting system for DPD RI to provide recommendations to DPD RI and as a clearinghouse to facilitate information dissemination activities of DPD RI and aspiration processing.
  3. Law Center can be used as an entry point to strengthen the authority of DPD RI by making its role and function effectively both in the legislation and supervision fields.
