Indonesia: The Big House of Unity in Diversity

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – AIDA Ismeth, DPD RI members from the Riau Islands Province expressed concern over the trials that hit Indonesia in the form of violence that occurred in several parts of Indonesia such as Maluku and Papua. “How is this sense of unity of our nation? I am concerned, I would like to see this nation become a strong nation, “he said in the DPD State Dialogue in Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta (26/10/2011). According to her, the violence that threaten the territorial integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia is influenced by factors of poverty and ignorance. For that, Aida invited people to jointly fight for the unity and build a nation of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Afnan Hadikusumo, DPD RI members of the Special Region of Yogyakarta thought that it is due to the commitment of national and state that is currently down. “In the past, the founding fathers think about how the nation became independent, but the politicians today are pragmatic karbitan politician,” said Afnan. The role of the DPD itself becomes more strategic because the interests of the region in general, not just region that represented only. “DPD has planned to strengthen the program of Potential Region adjusted to the potential of each region,” as Afnan described in the dialog titled “Maintaining and Strengthening the Pluralistic Nation: Maintaining Homeland”.

Responding to these problems, Hamdi Muluk invites us to look back, how the country named Indonesia was formed. “Like a home, Indonesia is a large house which consists of rooms which are formed from a variety of SARA (Tribe, Religion, Race, Inter-Group). Uniquely, those rooms have been existed first and then a house of Indonesia was built by the founding fathers to build the awareness of Indonesia, “said Professor of Psychology UI. Hamdi added, in order to maintain the unity of Indonesia, Unity in Diversity should be used consistently in the state organization.

In the same occasion, Roy BB Janis revealed that this nation will be safe to stay on track during the proclamation. “Pancasila will not be forgotten by the people, I just worry Pancasila contained in the Preamble of the 1945 is distorted by the political elite,” Roy said. If it turns out the nation’s problems is still not over, Roy thought that of the need for holding the revolution as the final step that must be taken. “Surely not the revolution that use violence, but the fundamental structural revolution,” said this Chairman of the PDP.
