Indonesia-Malaysia Border Needs a Review

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – News about annexation of Camar Bulan and Tanjung Datu is still in the spotlight of government and people of Indonesia. “This news lately has become a strategic issue as it relates to the border between Indonesia and neighboring country, Malaysia”, said M. Hutabarat, General Director of Defence Potential Ministry of Defence in the Working Meeting of Committee I DPD RI in Parliament Complex, Senayan – Jakarta, Monday , (24/10/2011).

Hutabarat also argued that the MOU between Indonesia and Malaysia in 1978, Indonesia left 10 issues that have not been agreed while Malaysia left nine issues because they think the problem of Camar Bulan is over. “The MOU of 1978 is actually not a final, so that the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Camar Bulan could still be reviewed”, he added

Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping Agency (Bakosurtanal) also presented as a resource. Deputy of Natural Resources Survey, Priyadi Kardono suggested, “Besides using a map and measuring certain coordinate points, determining the state limit can also be seen from the watershed, i.e. the boundary line that follows the direction of river flow,” he explained. The results of the survey found some monuments or stakes that had been made by the Dutch and British in the agreement they made as the state border between Indonesia and Malaysia. “But to date there is no change on the boundary stakes between the two countries”, said Priyadi.

It is incomplete without the opinion of the local government concerned. Cornelis, as Governor of West Kalimantan, only expressed the need for negotiation and review of agreements or MOU that have been made by Indonesia and Malaysia. He also hoped the political support from DPD RI.
