Reshuffle and the President’s Challenges of Leadership
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – The stronger pressure for the president to reshuffle the cabinet shows the decline in public’s trust in the performance of presidential assistances. Many controversial issues involving the ministers such remissions for the corruptor, corruption in the ministry institute, until the infidelity issue of the ministers make the effectiveness of government questioned. These conversations about the reshuffle were recorded in the State Dialogue of DPD RI themed “The Effectiveness of Reshuffling Cabinet toward the Government and Regional Development,” Wednesday (21/09/2011) at the Coffee Corner of DPD, Senayan, Jakarta.
According to Akbar Tanjung, now is the right momentum for the president to conduct an evaluation of his assistances in the government. “Reshuffle is urgently required for the effectiveness of government for the next two and a half years,” said the former Chairman of House of Representatives (DPR RI).
In addition to reshuffle, the president with his cabinet should also be more focus on important issues such as economic development, infrastructure, rising prices of food and energy, law enforcement, and eradication of corruption.
Although there is no guarantee the government would run better by doing a reshuffle, but it must be done to address the public’s hesitation with the indication of the absence of the government in the midst of national problems. “With reshuffle, it at least could be a warning bell that the government is still there. Although so far the main purpose of the government of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) is still unclear,” explained the political analyst, Sukardi Rinakit.
In contrast with other experts, former Minister of Forestry, MS. Ka’ban, judged that as president, SBY does have different leadership styles with the most people. As a former subordinate of SBY, Ka’ban assessed the stronger the public’s insistence, the president precisely does not like. It is because all decisions will be thought and done as perfect as possible, purely based on the consideration of president himself. “Even though there are survey results, the question is whether SBY believes it? I don’t think so, but I’m sure this time the president will do the reshuffle,” said the former chairman of the Crescent Star Party.
Meanwhile, M. Asri Anas, Senator from West Sulawesi Province, highlighted the minimum impact perceived by the regions from the performance of Kabinet Indonesia Bersatu (United Indonesia Cabinet) Volume Two. “As a regional representative, I myself feel that the government is less serious in fixing the infrastructure in the regions, the road building that spends budget of trillions of rupiah is still unfinished. So it is proper if the decline in the expectations and level of public’s trust in the effectiveness of government’s performance currently happen,” Asri asserted.
