Hajj Funds Settle at the Indonesian Bank (BI) and Deposit Beneficiary Bank (BPS) due to Not Optimal Management
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – The interest of Muslim society to carry out Hajj is very high. Until July 2011 more than 1.5 million people have deposited to the Deposit Beneficiary Bank (BPS). With initial deposit 25 million rupiah, the total funds stored in the account of the Minister of Religion reached 3.75 trillion rupiah and the People’s Permanent Fund (DAU) reached 1.6 trillion rupiah. This was conveyed by the Chairman of Central Leadership Assembly (MPP) of Rabithah Haji Indonesia, Ade Marfuddin, at the Working Meeting held by Committee III DPD RI in DPD Building Senayan – Jakarta (27/09/2011)
Those figures show how Hajj has tremendous economic potential. But Ade regretted that the not optimal management makes that potential has not become the people’s economic power because Hajj funds stay in BI and BPS. The funds are boon to the banks, but does not provide benefits for efforts to improve the implementation of Hajj, “moreover for the construction of people as a whole,” he said.
Ade revealed the importance of inviting banking to look how BPS manages the Hajj funds and how long the funds settled in the bank. It is still a maze; some say 3 months, a year, and some opinions even express that the banks have no right to manage it. Therefore, the whole funds then come in the account of the Minister. In other words, it goes into the state through BI. Of those funds, how much funds could be managed by the Government because of these deposits that can be done is only 1.6% per year. “It is if judged from the interest 1.6,” he explained.
Related to this, Elviana (Jambi) asked about a study conducted by Rabithah Haji Indonesia about the interest earned by BPS from Hajj funds. She wanted a detail description of the funds along with its management such as the amount of return to the state, fee, and other findings gained by Rabithah about the surplus of bank interest. “Sometimes the waiting list is up to five years, if the first deposit is 20 million, it will be very huge in the next five years,” she said.
Meanwhile, Carolina Nubatonis Kondo (NTT) demanded transparency in the details of Hajj funds and its management without engineering. She said that the huge funds are actually can be used for positive matters, such as the interest from the funds are used for cross-subsidies that its benefits can be perceived by future generations. “So our children and grandchildren will feel the benefits, (even) gradually may carry out Hajj freely,” she hoped.
