Committee IV DPD RI Supports People of North Sumatera to Gain Rights from PT. INALUM

Jakarta, dpd.go.idWORKING visit of Committee IV DPD RI to North Sumatera and Yogyakarta with the material of Second Hapsem (Results of Semester Examination) of Supreme Audit Council (BPK RI) FY 2010 which was held on 19-23 September 2011 gained many valuable inputs from the regions visited. The Plenum Meeting of Committee IV on the theme “Report of Working Team of Asmasda and Report of Working Visit Team on Materials of Hapsem II BPK FY 2010,” Tuesday (9/27/2011) discussed the need for Committee IV DPD RI to follow-up aspirations of people in Toba Samosir Regency about 2 megawatts of electrical power for communities in Balige and Porsea with special prices according to the Master Agreement of PT. INALUM (Indonesia Asahan Aluminium) with the Government of Indonesia on  July 7, 1975.

According to the Master Agreement, the communities in Porsea and Balige will pay a special price for electric power in accordance with a predetermined formula. However, until the Master Agreement executed for 30 years, people in the two regions continue to pay the electric power in accordance with the basic electricity tariff imposed by PT. PLN. The Regional Representatives (DPRD) of Toba Samosir Regency through the Special Committee and the Joint Team with PT. Inalum and PT. PLN has agreed that there is a difference in the price of electric power payments. As the temporary calculations by the government of Toba Samosir Regency, the amount of excess reaches 157, 305, 984, 000 rupiah.

“We have fought this case for a long time in order to make it as regional revenue (PAD), so that it could help Regional Budgets of Toba Samosir and North Sumatra in general. Do not let this demand evaporate before the takeover of PT. Inalum by the Government of Indonesia in 2013,” said Rudolf Pardede (Senator from Sumatera).

Due to agreement of leaders and members of Committee IV, six people have been selected as Team of Case Reviewers of PT. Inalum North Sumatera Province, namely: Litha Brent (Coordinator), John Pieris, Rudolf Pardede, Abdul Gafar Usman, H. Hamdhani, and Hoesein Effendy.

Further, Chairman of Committee IV, Cholid Mahmud, reminded that this team examines all aspects covering the problem with PT. Inalum in detail. “The case of PT. Inalum is very important and can be a lesson to the case of natural resources management in other regions. So next we can do an evaluation of all mining contracts,” said the senator from Yogyakarta Province.
