Committee III Encourages the Development of Indonesian Tourism

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – COMMITTEE III of DPD RI invited the Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel Agencies (ASITA) and Association of Indonesian Tourism Professionals (ASPPI) as experts in the public hearing meeting (RDPU) related to the oversight of committee III of DPD RI on the implementation of Law No. 10 Year 2009 concerning tourism. The meeting was led by the leader of Committee III, Hardi Selamat Hood, and Ben Sukma as President of ASITA, Indra Syahbirin as task executor of General Secretary of ASITA and Bahriansyah, Chairman of ASPPI presented at the meeting held in Building B, DPD RI Jakarta (6/9/11).

Tourism is identical to service so that anyone who is able to serve, then he will be the winner in the tourism industry. In addition, the technology penetrated to the world of tourism demands competitive Human Resources; unfortunately it cannot be properly fulfilled. “Enterprises in tourism first grew, and then just followed by tourism education, it is sometimes not ready to use. This is the main obstacle for tourism,” said Ben Sukma. One way to develop tourism in Indonesia according to Ben is by a tour package or the most popular tour package. Another thing noted by Ben is that Law No. 10/2009 has not been fully implemented, that is the absence of the Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board which has not been developed by the Minister of Tourism.

Indra Syahbirin added several other deficiencies in the tourism industry in Indonesia, among others the promotion which is not maximized, and lack of information and the absence of leaflets or brochures about tourism objects in airports in Indonesia. “We should provide information about the infrastructure in tourist destinations to promote tourism. Because, the domino effect of the tourism industry is very helpful for the economy in the region,” said Syahbirin.

Committee III of DPD RI supports the existence of ASITA and ASPPI in developing the tourism industry. This is in line with the statement of Bahar Buasan, senator from Bangka Belitung province, who declared that Indonesia must immediately motivate the tourism. “If the tourism industry grows, then the assets will increase, the more growth, the better,” said Bahar Buasan. Bahar Buasan hoped Committee III, ASITA and ASPPI can make cooperation in overseeing tourism to develop the Indonesian tourism. (af)
