Agenda of Working Visit to the Conflict Areas

Jakarta, dpd.go.idTHE PAST or on going conflict in the regions is affected by several factors, including economic, education, security, religion and culture factors. Conflict between ethnic groups (Dayak and Madura) in West Kalimantan, conflicts between ethnic groups in Maluku and social conflict in Poso encourage the House of Regional Representative (DPD RI), especially Committee I to continue refining the Bill of Handling of Social Conflict. This is the discussion in the Plenary Session of Committee I led by Dani Anwar, held in Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (07/09/2011).

Committee I also planned a working visit in order to gain input and for improving the material of that Bill. Based on its urgency level, three provinces were elected to be visited on 19 to 23 September 2011; those are Aceh, Bali and Sulawesi Provinces. From the results of the working visit later, DPD RI expects to be able to contribute in the handling of conflicts occurred in the regions.

Muhammad Gazali (Senator from Riau) on this occasion also conveyed conflicts of regional election in Pekanbaru. The provisions of the Constitutional Court (MK) which was not implemented by the National Elections Commission (KPU) and the absence of support from the government of Pekanbaru concerning funding have triggered the conflict. Gazali urged this case to be resolved immediately, then a meeting with relevant ministries or government can be held. “Many community leaders demanded this case to be handled with the help of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Central KPU and the Central Committee of Election Supervisory (Panwaslu),” he explained.
