Jakarta, dpd.go.id – CHAIRMAN of DPD, Irman Gusman, today (16/8/11) opened the agenda of the Joint Session of DPD and DPR RI in Nusantara Building Parliament Complex Senayan Jakarta. In his speech, the DPD senator from West Sumatera revealed the importance of the four pillars for the success of the Indonesian nation. The four pillars are the Pancasila, the 1945 Homeland and Unity in Diversity. “Mending the constitutional system through checks and balances would lead Indonesia to become a successful nation,” said Master of Businees Administration Graduate of University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA. Irman also confirmed that the eradication of corruption will be able to create good governance and clear governance.

The joint session between DPD and DPR RI followed by a speech from the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, in commemoration of 66 years of independence of Indonesia. “Independence is not only frees us from bondage, but also encourages us to work hard, solve the nation, for a better world,” said the President in his speech. On the occasion, SBY also said that criticism toward the government is important because the government requires corrective criticism.

The weakness of rule of law in Indonesia is also a concern for SBY. According to him, the law must stand above all the institutions in order to uphold justice for all. “We have to clean up Indonesia from corruption, therefore the KPK needs to be strengthened,” said SBY. (Af / saf)
