Special Subsidies for Cozy Homecoming

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Eid homecoming is an inevitable annual event in our country. The number of travelers is expected to grow from year to year; unfortunately this is not accompanied by an increase in the capacity of transportation. That places a lot of problems homecoming is going on such as discomfort, accidents, and so on. The society prefers private vehicles such as cars and motorcycles for homecoming that look more effective, cheaper, and may support mobility at home. The problem of uncomfortable homecoming is discussed in Talk Show of DPD RI “Indonesian Perspective” with the theme “When is Cozy Homecoming?” located in the Press Room of DPD RI, the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta (19/08/2011).

Every year the government and people are confused due to this homecoming problem. According to Darmaningtyas, a transportation expert, the government should allocate special funds for eid transportation, especially for lower and middle classes to feel cozy homecoming. Especially considering the eid homecoming which is an annual event, the arrangements should be done better. “However, looking the current condition of homecoming, cozy homecoming will not be achieved,” said Darmaningtyas.

Another expert, M. Syukur gave more attention in terms of road conditions. Syukur often sees road improvements carried out two days before Eid. “Road improvement should have been done a month before eid in order not to impede traffic,” said the senator from Jambi Province.

Besides, Syukur who is also a member of Work Team of Road Bill also proposed coordination between central government with provincial governments and local governments in road maintenance. In terms of responsible person on the road, Syukur considered the need for inter-provincial roads serve as the national roads to be handled by the central government. Furthermore, the member of Committee II expected the financial balance between the government and the regions, especially in road construction. “Involve DPD in financial planning so that there is a balance between central and local government,” he said.
