There’s Only One MRP in Papua
Jakarta, dpd.go.id – Political issue in Papua still become a serious problem in Indonesia. MRP establishment of West Papua has become a new issue that is very disturbing for Papuans who want independence within the frame of Unitary Republic of Indonesia, since West Papua is political puppets used for the benefit of certain parties. Sofia Maipauw, DPD Senator from West Papua, assisted by the Papua Caucus Coordinator in DPR, DPR Vice Chairman of West Papua, priests and intellectuals of West Papua, attended the Press Conference held at the Press Room DPD Senayan (17/06/11) to confirm the existence of an illegal MRP of Papua.
On that occasion, Coordinator of Papua Caucus in the DPR, Paskalis Kossay, considered that with the approval of the establishment of West Papua MRP means the government is not consistent in building Papua. Paskal asserted, “There is only one MRP in Papua and the MRP which was formed in West Papua has an illegal status and should be disbanded.”
In line with Decree of DPRD Papua Barat No. 23 of 2010 that was set at the plenary session on December 14, 2010, Jimmy Ijie (Vice-Chairman of West Papua DPRD ) said that the DPRD of West Papua approved only one MRP in Papua. In that conference, Jimmy also questioned the consistency of the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the establishment of the MRP that he agreed in 2008, at the same time conveyed the request for dissolution of MRP in West Papua. “If the president wants to build Papua with a heart, MRP of West Papua should be dissolved,” said Jimmy. Moreover, according to Jimmy, special autonomy is the final solution for political problems in Papua. If it can not be realized, the people of Papua will not hesitate to secede from the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and set up the Preparatory Committee for the Independence of Papua. “Disband West Papua MRP that has no legal basis, or the Free Papua Movement will emerge,” said Jimmy.
In his release, Papua Caucus in Parliament of RI urged:
1.President of RI immediately cease the efforts to establish the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) in the province of West Papua by irresponsible rogue elements.
2.Minister of Home Affairs should prevent the formation of the MRP in the province of West Papua by not approving the establishment of the MRP in the province of West Papua.
