The government should Notice the Quality and Needs for Doctors

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – MEDICAL EDUCATION in Indonesia still requires special attention with respect to existing problems such as the cost of education and lack of quality control. It became a major discussion in the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) of Committee III DPD RI in DPD Building Senayan Jakarta (06/20/11) by presenting the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) as sources. Prijo Sidipratomo, Chairman of the Board of IDI, recognized that there are quite lot problems particularly concerning to specialists and physician practice.

Senator from NTT, Carolina N. Kondo, raised the problems encountered in NTT. “People in NTT extremely need the presence of doctors. There is no specialist; even general practitioners are still very few.” Carolina also complained about the difficulty of getting permission for the physician practice whereas people really need it. In response, Prijo hoped that the government pays more attention to the quality and the needs of doctors in region.

Prijo strongly supported the creation of the Bill of Medical Education because he thought Law could set the whole country and it will provide a significant improvement. “In addition, people will be more compliant with the law than any other regulations in lesser degree,” he added. In relation to the Bill of Medical Education, IDI provides several suggestions; including (1) supervision to the Medical Faculty and close the Medical Faculty that does not meet the requirements, (2) tighten the permit of the establishment of Medical Faculty, (3) addition of medical education subsidies, and (4) establishment of Commission of Medical Education/Specialist.
