The Government Offered 25% Shares of PT. Newmont To the Government of NTB
The Central government will share 25 percent from 7 percent divestment of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara to the local government. The offer was conveyed by Minister of Finance and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources in a meeting with the Chairman and senators of DPD, Tuesday (21/06). The House of Regional Representatives held a meeting to discuss share divestment issue of PT Newmont. “We will mediate the problems that occur in region related to the Newmont share divestment,” said Vice Chairwoman of DPD, GKR Hemas, who chaired the meeting.
The Minister of Finance, Agus Martowardojo explained that the government will send the government central investment to meet with local government and shareholders of Newmont, to explain the government’s bidding. Agus explained that the purchase of share divestment in PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara for 7% must be submitted to the central government first, then central government will offer to local governments to have their business by 25% from 7%. “Region must have a consortium, who will receive 25% of 7%. 25% of 7% must be paid, because of accountability in the center should also be maintained, “said Agus.
Agus also said that if there is a consortium, each region asked the Regional of Representative to create a local regulation in order to establish regional-owned company (BUMD). These companies will receive the shares. “These companies will have a direct share to Newmont, if Newmont’s share rises, they will also go up,” said Agus.
Senator of DPD from NTB, Farouk Muhammad said that until now there is no agreement between central and local governments. “So, team from government central investment will explain that the scheme being offered will not harm, as feared by the governor,” said Farouk.
Regent of West Sumbawa, Zulkifli Muhadli agreed with the central government’s bidding. Zulkifli felt that West Sumbawa as producing districts received big losses, so that 25% of 7% is supposed to be the right of West Sumbawa regency. “We ask the Minister of Finance, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and DPD to communicate with the Governor, that 24% to regional consortium is more than enough, and 25% of 7% is for producing districts,” said Zulkifli.
The meeting was also attended by Chairman of Committee I H. Dani Anwar, Vice Chairman of Committee II Mursyid, Vice Chairman of Committee IV H. Abdul Gafar Usman, and senators of DPD from NTB Province, Abdul Muhyi Abidin and Baiq Diyah Ratu Ganefi.
