Jakarta, dpd.go.id - Effort to propose the fifth amendment of the 1945 Constitution by DPD RI has reached the national sphere. This is evidenced by the executing of the National Workshop on “Urgency of the Fifth Amendment of the 1945 Constitution: Consolidation of Democracy and National Identity” in Nusantara IV Building, Parliament Complex on Tuesday (28/06/11). In addition to senators and chancellors throughout Indonesia, the event was also attended by Principals/Teachers of senior high school/vocational school (SMA/SMK) and BEM of University in Jakarta.

In the event organized by the Group of DPD in the Assembly (MPR), Vice Chairman of the MPR opened the workshop. Bambang Soeroso as chairman of the group of DPD in the Assembly expressed his hope in the future there will be Assembly that can make a more perfect and stable Constitution, because the Constitution is the basis in the national and social life. Therefore, the fifth amendment of the 1945 Constitution should be implemented.

What is being proposed by DPD now has got a lot of support. Buyung Nasution, for example, on the occasion, he expressed support for steps taken by DPD RI in proposing the fifth amendment of the 1945 Constitution. In line with Adnan, Jimly Asshiddiqie, Professor of Law Faculty of University of Indonesia, stated explicitly that he agreed to the proposal. “I agree and it must happen,” he said. He also expressed support for such reasons, one because of the unclear power of DPD as an institution.

In the viewpoint of Mulyana W. Kusumah, the fifth amendment of the 1945 Constitution is the completion of the nation’s problems; hence, the basic idea of ​​the constitution should be designed ideally. He also found so many flaws in the previous amendments of the constitution that were many records in MPR. “The Constitution in our country made for the benefit of certain parties. Therefore, there should be a stand-alone agency to oversee the implementation of the amendment,” he said.
