Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU): The National Security Bill

The law in Indonesia cannot be expected to be both very perfect and able to solve various problems. Related to that, DPD RI held a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with the Work Team of National Security Bill. At that time the RDPU discussed the preparation of the National Security Bill by inviting some resource persons, at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (13/6).

According to Dr. Kusnanto Anggoro, a political and military observer, one of the most crucial problems faced is how to establish cooperation between/with various agencies; therefore it requires a law that governs the relationship. Thus, a regulation on line with Law level is necessary in order to provide early warning, prevention, and response to agencies both government institutions and other institutions related to security. Kusnanto also said that the National Security Bill does not give any consequence on violation of Human Rights (HAM) or something like that.

This Bill is the sum of piece of the prior and the next laws,” Prof. Dr. Ikrar Nusa Bhakti (Indonesia Institute of Sciences researcher and lecturer FISIP UI) revealed. And this law is still a combination of the duties of the Indonesian Army (TNI) and the Police,” he added. At the same time, responding to several articles relating to the establishment of the National Security Council and the definition of national security itself. Another resource person, Prof. Dr. Salim Said (Diplomat and military observer) provided inputs related to the articles in the National Security Bill. While Usman Said (member of Kontras: Committee for Lost People and Victims of Violence) focused on concentric supervision in the use of special powers contained in Article 54 of the National Security Bill.
