Population Administration: Need Special Agency on a Line with Ministry Level

Lack of commitment of the implementing agency in building a comprehensive priority of population administration causes complaints from some regions. Some opinions say that the current population administration is viewed as a source of local revenue, not as a public service. This became one of issues discussed in the Session of Work Team of Supervision of Population Administration, on Monday (13/06), in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

In the session it is revealed that from the results of regional visit and the previous hearng there are still many problems associated with the population administration such as system and procedure of population administration as well as the population main number (NIK) and identification card (KTP), which became other big issues in addition to the population data generally. Because this problem is important, they argued that there should be a special agency on a line with Ministry level to administer and manage this problem.

There should be a command or confirmation from the Ministry to the Regent or Mayor that they consider important this issue of population administration,” explained Elnino M. Husein Mohi (Senator from Gorontalo). There must also be percentage in the regional budget (APBD) for population affairs,” he added.

Denty Eka Widi Pratama (Senator from Central Java) added the need for technology support (IT) to address this population. In addition to regional budget, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology may add a special system for the civil affairs,” he explained.
