Leaders of DPD RI honored visit of delegation of Nepal Constitution planner. The visit was honored by GKR Hemas accompanied by Sultan Bakhtiar Najamudin (Chairman of Inter Parliament Committee), Bambang Soeroso (Chairman of DPD Group), Wahidin Ismail (Vice Chairman of DPD Group) which took place in Delegation Room of DPD RI, Nusantara III Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (06/15/2011).
Delegations from Nepal are Purna Man Shakya, Bibin Adhikasi and Khushee Tahru with assistant staffs from the Association for the Elections and Democracy (PERLUDEM).
The meeting presented the history of DPD RI in relation with the plan of the Amendment of the 1945 Constitution, that DPD RI was formed in 2004, as a result of amendment of the 1945 Constitution, currently DPD RI is in the second period, 2009-2014, which is regional representative of 33 Provinces. DPD RI has the authority to supervise the implementation of laws, to give consideration and opinion, as well as the propose initiative bill relating to regional affairs, such as the issue of regional autonomy, central and local government relations, natural resources and other economic resources. DPD has limited authority that causes DPD unable to optimally solve community and regional aspirations in the form of law in national level. Nevertheless, despite its limited authority, DPD still works; it has been widely proven by making legislation.
DPD has drafted amendment of the 1945 Constitution which was agreed by name “The Fifth Amendment of the 1945 Constitution” and on March 29, 2011 through the Leader of DPD Group was submitted to the Leader of MPR and Fraction in MPR to make an assessment.
