DPD Urges Equitable Development of Infrastructure for Regions
Jakarta: Every party expects equalization of infrastructure development throughout Indonesia. However, there are still technical and non-technical constraints in its implementation. In the Meeting of the Committee IV DPD RI with the Minister of Public Works, Djoko Kirmanto said that in building the infrastructure there is also a priority scale, adapted to the budgets and development strategies. “Under the president’s instructions, our development strategy is pro poor, pro growth, pro jobs and pro green so that aspects of environment and climate change are also our concern,” said Djoko at GBHN Building, Nusantara V, Parliament Complex Senayan on Wednesday (15/06/2011).
The meeting revealed that the problem of road development is the widest problem for members of Committee IV DPD RI. H. Hamdhani (Senator from Central Kalimantan Province) proposed to standardize the road. “Please do standardization for trans road in Kalimantan as road in Java,” he said.
Besides the quality, the addition of road quantity is also urgent to be resolved, such as the trans road in Sumatra, Halmahera Maluku, Kalimantan as well as access roads for the people of Papua who are still isolated in the mountainous region. In response to that matter, Djoko asserted that not all responsibility of infrastructure development can be burdened to the Ministry of Public Works. “In accordance with the Act, there is responsibility for the region to carry out development in the region,” he said.
For the future, the ministry of Public Works has formed inspectors for national roads to monitor the maintenance and care of the road when damage occurs. “For example, road in north coast of Java, we assigned officer in each segment of 10 kilo meters. One of his tasks is to monitor the annual maintenance, five-yearly and ten-yearly repairs or in accordance with the age of the road,” said deputy minister of Public Works Dardak Hermanto.
