DPD Suggests to Strengthen Bawaslu (Election Supervisors Agency)
Related to the reality of last election which was away from the principle of direct-general-free-confidential (luber) and honest-fair (jurdil), DPD argued for Bawaslu (Election Supervisors Agency), as an agency in charged with overseeing the implementation of elections, should be given more authority.
“We don’t want to disband Bawaslu if the opportunities for Bawaslu enforcement is still exist,”said Wayan Sudirta, Chairman of PPUU DPD RI, at a press conference in the DPD press room, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/06/11).
According to Jacob Jack Ospara, Senator DPD from Maluku, the way to strengthen Bawaslu is by granting authority to directly handle administrative matters and continue the findings of criminal violations to the General Court elections.
Not only about Bawaslu, but DPD also conveyed some actual issues for improvement of the Law No. 22 of 2007 on the organization of elections, including to propose the process of vote counting and election supervision at the provincial level; the limbs of election organizers, the KPU and Bawaslu, should not come from political parties and must be supported with the budget and devices in each region, as well as additional considerations authority of the Commission in determining the permanent voters list (DPT).
