National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers or also known as BNP2TKI commits to provide protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) starting from departure to homecoming to their homeland. This was disclosed by Chief BNP2TKI, Moh. Jumhur Hidayat, in the Hearing of Committee III with discussion of issues related to implementation of Law no. 39 Year 2004 on Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Abroad, which took place in Boardroom PPUU Floor 3 Building B DPD RI Senayan Jakarta on Monday (13/06/11). In the trial Jumhur also revealed the efforts made throughout the BNP2TKI to protect TKI in accordance with the Act, one of them is by making cards for the workers which is called the Migrant Worker Card (KTKLN).

In addition to functioning as an identity card of TKI in foreign countries, the card also provides many benefits for workers. Therefore, BNP2TKI obliges to TKI to have this card. For ease of its manufacture, BNP2TKI also opens service of KTKLN manufacture at the airport.

No doubt, there are many problems associated with migrant workers out there, one of them related to family of TKI. Jumhur admitted, TKI or TKW are the main cause of divorce. However, the delivery of TKI cannot be stopped suddenly, as expressed by Jumhur, “Sending TKI abroad cannot be suddenly stopped, it should be done gradually.” In the future, Committee III DPD RI expects more skilled workers to be sent rather than housemaid (PRT).

To promote morale and give appreciation to TKI, Jumhur said, his institute is also planning the enforcement of TKI Award, not only for workers, but also for employers and partners of placement of TKI. “On 8 September BNP2TKI has a birthday, one of the supporting programs is by organizing TKI Award,” Jumhur explained. Related to the initiative bill of TKI being prepared by the Committee III DPD RI, Jumhur expressed his support if it is good for TKI abroad.
