Vice Chairman I DPD RI, La Ode Ida accompanied by Senator from Papua Province, Tonny Tesar and Paulus Yoahanes Sumino, and senator from West Papua Province, Sofia Maipauw welcomed visit from representatives of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) in the 8th Floor Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (15/6/11).

Within the visit they discussed about the problems associated with the presence of MRP, the new government policies and other matters related to the Papua and West Papua. As presented by representatives of DPR from West Papua, Jimmy D. Ijie that the Papuan people dream to live in a mansion called Indonesia. “We hope our rights to be guaranteed and protected, to be recognized and respected, given a place in accordance with the values and uniqueness we have. But ultimately, we faced our way to the dividing society or pitting and divided society,” said Jimmy.

One of crucial issues is the establishment of the West Papuan People’s Assembly that could trigger a rupture for the Papuans themselves. “Induction of MRP of West Papua has been hold and was attended by 11 people, including members and three people as leaders. A fundamental question from DPD to the General Director of Regional Autonomy is why the leader of MRP that was first selected was not inducted. “That is something we regret,” Jimmy explained further.
