DPD Criticized the Strategy to Accelerate Economic Development

Jakarta, dpd.go.id - MP3EI (Master plan of Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development) which is regulated in Presidential Regulation No. 32 Year 2011 has set three main strategies since its launch on May 27, 2011,. This was stated by Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas (Board of National Development Planning), Armida Alisjahbana in the Meeting of Committee IV DPD with the Minister of Finance, Minister for National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas; Discussion of the Macroeconomic Framework and Principles of the National Development Policy in the RAPBN (Draft State Budget) 2012 and the RAPBN-P 2011, Monday (6/20/2011).

Those three main strategies are: increasing the economic potential of the region through the economic corridor, strengthening national connectivity and human resource capacity and the National Science and Technology. These strategies are expected to improve the welfare of society as the rate of national economic growth. “Every 1% of economic growth can create employment opportunities for about 450-500 thousand people, thus lowering the unemployment rate,” said Armida.

In response, Sofia Maipauw (Senator of West Papua Province) highlighted the frequent of mismatch between the government’s plans and the implementation. This can be seen from the unrealized proposals of Musrenbang (Development Planning Forum) from village to provincial level when the policy set forth in the regional budget.

The term of Papuan, exercise and play are different. It means our choir sings a song with an extremely different tone when practicing and having a performance. Likewise the development approach that simply replaces the name but its substance is still the same,” said Sofia.

Answering such doubts, Armida admitted there were still weaknesses in the process of Musrenbang until Musrenbangnas (National Development Planning Forum). Therefore, in addition to evaluating mechanism of Musrenbang, the government should also consider input from the region. “As in this master plan, the government synergizes with State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and private sectors to realize the acceleration and expansion of economic growth,” the Head of Bappenas ended.
