Budget Priorities To Catch the Momentum of Economic Revival

Jakarta, dpd.go.id – This 21st century is the momentum of the revival of Asian economies. As a developing country, Indonesia should be able to use this great momentum if it does not want to be left behind as spectators only. This statement was delivered by the economist from UGM, Sri Adiningsih, at the Hearing Meeting of Committee IV DPD on “Framework of Macroeconomic and Fiscal Policy Principles of the Draft State Budget 2012 and Revised State Budget 2011″ in the building of the DPD RI, Senayan, Jakarta (27/06/2011).

Unfortunately, until now Indonesia is still seized with three economic issues (3K) in the form of low quality, dropping from neighboring countries and inequality. “Indonesia has the prerequisites to get up its economy, if for several years there was no change in circumstances, we fail to make the correct policy (right policy),” said doctoral graduate of the University of Illinois.

Furthermore, Sri added that the government needs to make the design of fiscal policy that could resolve the issues of 3K above. Among others are by doing the budget priority; quality improvement, growth and equity improvement. If necessary, the government could implement the increase in fuel/BBM (fuel oil) in stages to cut the subsidies. “If subsidized funds are diverted to infrastructure development, then it will really help turnaround the economy,” added UGM’s lecture of graduate faculty.

In the same occasion, an economic observer CIDES (Centre for Information and Development Studies) Umar Juoro, conveyed the importance of controlling inflation in order to slow the rate of interest that could run a stable economy. “We need to learn from the Philippines in the control of inflation, their economies grow well because they successful controlling inflation,” said former economic adviser BJ. Habibie.

Currently, the momentum is in the government’s courage to make a breakthrough (breakthrough) policy, whether to put first the political consequences or economic rationality in dealing with macroeconomic problems.
