Be Consistent with the Representation Basis
Member of Working Team III PPUU DPD RI invited Didik Supriyanto S.IP., M. SI (Chairman of the Association for Elections and Democracy) to provide inputs and views of the Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) regarding to the Amendment Draft of Law No. 10 of 2008 on General Elections for the DPR, DPD and DPRD, in PPUU Meeting Room, 3rd floor, Building B DPD RI, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (07/06/11)
The RDPU results are expected to provide inputs to strengthen the role of DPD in the Indonesian state system and created a national legal system that is focusing on the needs of communities and regions.
Related to that, Djasarmen Purba (DPD RI Senator from Riau Islands), as the chairman of the meeting, mentioned the results of previous meetings and one of them was about the recruitment of senators of DPD in each province should be increased to 5 (five) people with the hope that the DPD has a better bargaining system with DPR.
In respond, Didik confirmed that although it does not violate the constitution, it still has to consider the terms of performance and quality of members, therefore it is enough for DPD to have 4 seats in each province, “so that there is the equality of votes in every province. ”
He also added that to strengthen the role of DPD, it can be done by strengthening the representation basis of the DPD and DPR clearly, DPD represents space and the DPR represents the people.
According to him, the representation basis should be formulated consistently, “What’s already in the constitution, that’s what we must deepened. The DPR must consistently represent the people , The DPD must consistently represent the area, “explained Didik.
