Returning Pancasila as the Spirit of National Culture
As an ideology of the nation, Pancasila is now facing the onslaught of the value. So, it’s no wonder now that various elements of the nation missed the embodiment of Pancasila in the life of nation and state. This idea appears in a seminar with the theme “Cultural Revival and Internalization Values of Pancasila in the Life of Society, Nation, and State” that is held by DPD RI in commemoration of National Awakening Day and the making of Pancasila, Thursday, 19/5/2011. Acting as a speaker is Prof. Dr. Hj. Istibsyaroh (Chairwoman of Committee III), Taufiq Rahzen (President Advisor of the Field of Culture), Dr. Radhar Panca Dahana (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia), Dr. Asvi Warman Adam (Historian in LIPI), Dr. Bahtiar Effendy (Dean of Faculty of Social UIN Syarif Hidayatullah), and Suryopratomo (News Director of Metro TV).
Starting the discussion, Istibsyaroh said that in maintaining culture— which was considered out of date— is a difficult thing because it is against modernization and secularization. “Of every culture that enter, we should filter it, whether it is in accordance with the nation’s cultural values and our religion or not. Therefore, the culture of Pancasila must be completely implanted well “she said. Istibsyaroh also added that Indonesia’s cultural values are progressively decreasing because of many damaged cultural heritage.
More focus on the five principles of Pancasila, Taufik Rahzen added that the first and second principles of Pancasila are the ethical aspects, the fourth and fifth are political aspects, which created the third principle as a liaison between the two aspects. Connecting the previous talks, Dr. Asvi Warman Adam deplored the abolition of Pancasila from the national education curriculum. “Indonesia should learn from other countries that require ideological and the history of the national struggle to be taught in all schools and colleges” said Asvi.
Meanwhile, Radhar Panca Dahana proclaimed for the importance of maintaining diversity in Indonesia. Because Pancasila is the sky for the stars of diversity throughout the archipelago. “By still keeping the kejawaan, kebetawian, kemelayuan or whoever you are, that way you will be able to appreciate the diversity and difference” said Radhar.
While Pancasila is the essence of national culture, but as an ideological nation should also consider how to implement it in the governance of this State. This opinion was expressed by Bachtiar Effendy who thinks there is a need for the state of infrastructure and instrument to test whether Pancasila has been applied in government. “Local regulation and legislation can be reviewed at the Constitutional Court (MK) to examine whether it is contradicted with the 1945 Constitution or not, if for example the President violated the values of Pancasila how we’re going to test it?” Said Bachtiar.
This appeal became irrelevant when today we see the reformation still has not show significant changes. According to Suryo Pranoto, reformation stays in place because the mission and vision of Indonesia at the opening of the 1945 Constitution has been forgotten. “We did not realize that the direction and goals of this nation are so clear, which are educate life of the nation, promote the general welfare, and bring peace to the world” said Suryo. Pancasila is steps of how to realize the ideals of the nation.
Through the spirit of the internalization of Pancasila, it is hoped that the leaders could begin to set an example of how the values and ideology of Pancasila was implemented in running the national and state life. (AF / SAF)
