The development of Indonesia which is not optimal due to some constraints, one of them is the development gap between central and local that is based on the budgets’ gap between the two. The House of Regional Representatives (DPD) RI which was formed to voice the aspirations of the region has a significant role in accelerating the process of regional development by overcoming this gap. Secretary General of DPD RI, Siti Nurbaya Bakar, and Deputy of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) of Economics, Prasetijono Widjojo, discussed the problem in The Interactive Dialogue of Trijaya FM at the Press Room DPD RI, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (26/05/11), with the theme “Accelerated Development in Overcoming regional disparities. “

In the process of regional development, DPD has quite a lot of roles. Besides overseeing, it also discussing legislation that related to the region such as expansion, Natural Resources, Education, Religion, giving the initiative Bill and also considering the state budget. In relation with the budget, nowadays financial allocation for the region has reached 35%, it has increased 15% compared with the previous year. This was explained by Siti Nurbaya Bakar who believes that the DPD has a key factor in overcoming this gap. “The function of this budget considerations become a key factor in overcoming regional disparities,” said Siti.

Prasetijono Widjojo revealed that regional disparities can be overcome with the function to oversee, which is the consistency of national development and also adjust budget (APBD) allocations with the priorities agreed in the area. Other things that are also important to be noticed are the plan formulation, implementation and monitoring of regional development. On the occasion, Prasetijono also stated that the DPD can improve its role in the process of regional development. “DPD can provide a better portrait of the region to overcome the issues in the region,” he said.
