Creating Strong Indonesia without Bribes
Independence of the Republic of Indonesia has been almost 66 years old, but the development in many sectors it is still too far from perfect. Public facilities are still difficult to access by the public. But, evidently, there are still many problems of development. In particular the economic development faces major challenge in the form of bribery that leads to corruption. Could graft and corruption be eliminated in the development process in our country? The issue was discussed in State Dialogue organized by DPD RI with the theme “Economic Development without Bribes”, Wednesday, 25/05/2011, in Coffee Corner DPD RI, Senayan, Jakarta.
For Abdul Gafar Usman, Vice Chairman of Committee IV DPD RI, the most fundamental thing to do before carrying out development is to eliminate the negative aspects and explore the positive aspects. So far, development in Indonesia is not in line with expectations. One of causes is unsuccessful development in many areas. “If the region is good and strong, then our country is also going well and strong. Like a building, the region is bricks that build our country,” said the senator from Riau Province. In addition, Abdul Gafar also emphasized the importance of the elimination of authority trade which currently is still common.
Siti Zuhro, LIPI researcher, who also agreed that Indonesia’s development has not been optimal, added a few thoughts, including the development of some sectors, not only economic, but also moral aspects. The leader of this nation is also influential in the eradication of graft and corruption. “We need a leader who has a strong-leadership character for the heterogeneity of Indonesia,” said Zuhro. Especially today, according to Zuhro, with development that is being encouraged, in fact we are still in the process of “being Indonesia.” (AF)
