The Group Members of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) in the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia (MPR) conducted the plenary session with the agenda of Endorsement of the fifth Amendment Manuscript of the 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945), in Nusantara V Building, MPR / DPR / DPD, Wednesday (16 / 2 / 2011). The plenary session was chaired by the Chairman of the Group of DPD in the MPR RI, Bambang Soeroso, accompanied by Secretary of DPD group in the MPR, Muhammad Afnan Hadikusumo and the vice chairman and vice secretary.

“On this plenary session mechanism, we will make the endorsement toward our commitment, the commitment of all DPD members in order to fight for the fifth Amendment of the 1945 Constitution,” said Bambang opening the plenary session.

Bambang said that the DPD group has produced the proposals of Article Changes and its reasons as well as academic paper. According to him, this is necessary in order to provide arguments and understanding of the Articles to be enhanced.

In addition, Bambang also explained about the target projection or projections of the target to be fought together in the future. “We want the fight for the proposed of the fifth amendments to become a national consensus. It means that because the constitution is for the people as holders of sovereignty, the people who are represented by you, sir and madam, must be involved, within the framework; therefore to bring this fifth amendments to become a national consensus is our ultimate target,” he explained.

Then, the next target is to lobby discussion with leaders of political parties and factions in the MPR. With this discussion, it is expected to occur an understanding among political parties, so that on mid-August 2011 those manuscripts can be submitted to the the Chairman of MPR to follow up.

In agreement with the exposure that has been submitted by Bambang Soeroso, John Pieris as vice secretary also said that one of the most important thing is to pay attention to the political solidity that is owned to improve state administration system. “Chairman of the Committee and DPD fittings, we are responsible to collect every empty signatures that is hopefully can be collected within 1 month, I think this would be a very powerful document for DPD internally,” he said.
