The Government Must be Firm and Consistent in Overcoming Conflict in the Society

The governments should be able to keep the constitution by regulating the society so that they would be harmonious and consistent running the rules made by the three pillars, namely the legislative, executive and judicial. Abdul Azis, senator of DPD RI from South Sumatera, deplored the attitude of SBY in the event of unrest and anarchy by a certain party. SBY as if not present in the midst of society. “If SBY is a statesman and do not need of popularity matters, then he must keep this country in order to remain intact,” said Abdul Aziz in Indonesia Perspective dialogue with the theme “How to Overcome the Problems Against the Anarchy in Society” in the pressroom, DPD RI Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (18/02).

According to Abdul Aziz, a variety of violence in the name of religious matters that happened in society today showed the leadership character that is weak. According to him, there was a state politicization in law enforcement in dealing with the violence action. This is due to the political interests in the country.

Director of Reform Institute, Yudi Latif assessed that the state did not care about the violence act against Ahmadiyah that occurred lately. Yudi analyzed in the case of Temanggung and Cikeusik that what have been occurred was not society violence, because the systematic pattern of the attacks on Ahmadiyah. “In the case of Cikeusik, it is clear that the Police already knew and told the central Ahmadiyyah to save its local property. The attack pattern was also wearing a blue ribbon. People who came in Temanggung were also not from Temaggung but Salatiga,” said Yudi.

Yudi criticized Joint Decree (SKB) of the Three Ministers which he considered judging a particular belief. States should not be religious and it should not place any particular religion became dominant in pluralist country like Indonesia, and it should protect any religion and belief. According to him, so far, there are many the violence occurred because of lack of clarity of authority, just like the SKB that should be abolished because it is against the Constitution. “If the state is too took part about misleading things then sooner or later will be trapped,” said Yudi.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Slamet Effendy Yusuf said that the relationship between religion and state has become a discourse. However, it was easy talking about normative. The state life is not on normative matters but it is the social reality.

Slamet Effendy said that the SKB is a form of regulation in order to make the society live orderly because they have not yet mature in religious life, so it must be regulated by the state. The government, said Slamet issued rules because there are conflicts and potential conflicts so that if it is not be regulated then conflict will continue. “SKB of the Three Ministers is a response of the government to regulate the relations between religious communities over the conflict that has been occured,” said Slamet. Slamet suggested the government to be consistent in regulating the rules including the SKB of Three Ministers.
