DPD RI Is Concerned Over the Law Enforcement in Indonesia
The House of Regional Representatives is deeply concerned over the weakness of law enforcement, related to the case of Gayus which is not over and Tomohon Mayor’s Inauguration, Jefferson Rumajar, in prison. Vice Chairman of DPD, Laode Ida and several senators of DPD encourage the governments cancelling Jefferson Soelaiman Rumajar inauguration as Mayor of Tomohon and fixing the law enforcement system. The statement expressed in a press conference attended by Laode Ida (Vice-Chairman of DPD), Dani Anwar (Chairman of Committee I of DPD), Istibsyaroh (Chairman of Committee III), Ferry Tinggogoy (Senator of DPD from North Sulawesi), Paulus Yohanes Sumino (Senator of DPD from Papua), and Pardi (Senator of DPD from DKI Jakarta), in DPD press room, the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (01/13).
Dani Anwar received a report from the region related to corruption issues which was in relation with the regional head election and it was very worrying. It was proven by several people who went to prison immediately after the inauguration. “This is very disappointing because the officials’ inauguration was conducted in prison, it made this nation worse,” he said.
Ferry Tinggogoy said that the Tomohon Mayor’s Inauguration in the prison is not valid. “We ask the government of North Sulawesi to revoke and cancel the inauguration because it is contradictory to the legislation,” he said.
According to Ferry, the inauguration of Jefferson violated several rules, among others, Law No. 32/2004 on Regional Governance and Law of Civil Servants on the rules of promotion and removal of officials. “If not cancelled, there are at least six regents, regional heads, and governors who will go to jail,” he said.
In addition to these problems, DPD also criticized the case of Gayus Tambunan which must be resolved carefully. Paulus said that the resolution of corruption case was a matter of state ethics. He asserted that fighting corruption was still in doubt. “In my opinion the president is hesitate, he led the eradication of corruption but there is no results,” he stated.
In response to these problems, Laode Ida asked the central government to do reform on local officials that indicated corruption. He also requested that local officials who have a track record of disclaimer should not be treated spoiled. “The regents whom troubled must be canceled his/her inauguration with all the consequences of its policies,” said Laode.
Next, concerning the law enforcement in the case of Gayus, Laode Ida considered that this was the portrait of unorganized, morality of law enforcement officer that have been damaged and it should not be ignored by the president.
Other issue which was important according to Laode Ida was handling migrant workers, as well as price increases issues that should be intervention by state immediately. These issues will be brought by DPD RI into the working meetings in order to discuss its solution.
