Discussion of 3 Bills in the Plenary session-2 PPUU

The PPUU Plenary Session on Wednesday (26 /1) discussed the Bill on Community Participation, the Bill on Financial and Administrative Rights, and the Bill on General Elections Legislature. One of the main discussion of PPUU is the Bill on legislative elections which are currently being discussed by the DPR.

PPUU saw the need for evaluation of the 2009 election to accommodate the supervision and implementation of elections in the future. Related to the latest political developments in the DPR, there is an urge to decrease the minimum number of voters in one electoral district which resulted in the increasing number of the DPR members.

“Why is that to determine the number of DPD members depend on the number of DPR members? Where is the study, why not refering to the number of districts, “asked Paulus (Senator DPD from Papua). He felt the need to measure the clarity of Article 22C of the 1945 Constitution which states the number of DPD members should not be more than 1/3 (one third) of the number of DPR members.

I Wayan Sudirta (DPD Senator from Bali) emphasized to use the road of democracy in any way and not to forget to uphold the institution of manners, “we must make an effort of law by maintaining the relationship with the DPR,” he shortly explained.
