Commitment is Needed to Implement the Protection of migrant workers (TKI)
Law No. 39 Year 2004 on Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Abroad (PPTKLN) was considered unable to overcome all the problems that arise concerning the placement and protection of workers overseas. What is needed, of course, not just to revise the Law 39/2004, more than that, it is requires commitment to implement them.
“The commitment to implement some provisions of item as referred in the related law and its law enforcement are the main agenda,” said Istibsyaroh, Chairman of Committee III DPD RI, when opening the meeting with the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (Kemennakertrans), in Room Nusantara V DPD Guidelines / MPR, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (8 / 2).
In its commitment to enhance protection of migrant workers, Sumarno, Director General Binapenta Kemennakertrans, stated that Kemennakertrans has taken steps, one of them is the foreign cooperation, the placement of labor attaché as the mandate of Article 78 of Law 39/2004 and the provision of legal assistance and defense if there is a problem in the country of placement. Moreover, it is also done the 200 hours tightening and supervision and the professional certification and the reformation of the standard shelter and transit for TKI.
Sumarno stated that the Ministry has also paid serious attention on the establishment of Perwalu as a liability for PPTKIS in order to monitor the placement and settlement of migrant workers cases. Besides that, the Ministry also tightening the publication of SIUP for PPTKIS. “One year, just five,” he said.
Such steps are expected to give good results because it has been duly for the Government to provide protection and safety assurance of the soul, body and property of every stages of the placing process for workers in foreign country. (And)
