The House of Representatives and The House of Regional Representative held a joint session with the agenda of the State Address by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to welcome the 65th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

This first event of Indonesia’s parliamentary system was held at the Plenary Meeting Room, Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday morning (16 / 8).

The Joint session is alternately held by DPR or DPD, or take turns every once a year. For this first joint session, the Chairman of DPR—Marzuki Alie acted as the Speaker for the session, while next year, it will be led by Chairman of DPD, Irman Gusman.

The event was scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until noon. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was accompanied by his wife, Ani Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, as well as Vice President Boediono with his wife, Herawati Boediono.

At 9:45 p.m. in front of the main gate of Nusantara Building, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his wife arrived in the building and were welcomed by Marzuki Alie and his wife, Asmawati.

Together with Marzuki Alie, Chairman of DPD Irman Gusman and his wife, Liestyana Rizal, also welcomed the President.

Five minutes earlier, Vice President Boediono and his wife arrived in the building and were greeted by the Vice Chairman of the DPR, Priyo Budi Santoso, and Vice Chairman of the DPD, Laode Ida.

At 10:00 p.m. in Plenary Meeting Room, the President, the Vice President, the Chairmen of the DPR and the DPD stood in a specified place to listen to “Indonesia Raya” that was sung by Gita Bahana Nusantara Orchestra and followed by the audience.

Continued with “Mengheningkan Cipta” that is led by the head of the session, the Chairman of DPR, Marzuki Alie.

In this joint session, the leaders seats, in the pulpit of the Plenary Meeting Room under the Garuda Bird Symbol, were occupied by the Chairmen of DPR and DPD.

Therefore, senators of the DPD occupied block of seats in the middle of Plenary Meeting Room.
